When Judith Cofer wrote The Myth of the Latin Woman she told us in the story how her appearance had followed her throughout her life especially when she was at a poetry reading and a woman called her over to her table to order a cup of coffee. This happened only because the older woman had mistaken Cofer as a waitress since the only job people think a Latin woman could get is as a waiter, or housemaid. Aside from their success and accomplishments people always judged them only because of their backgrounds. Not many Latin women in that time got to get an education like Cofer did so she saw how privileged she was and she chose to continue to fight against these stereotypes and be the voice of women who can’t get an education. Also, not many women would react in the way that Angelou did against her
