3. The physical environment of this movie is within the nursing home that Allie is a resident within. The social environment consists of Duke coming to visit her. Allie is within her later stage of life.
4. Allie’s mental functions, process skills, and performance skills are mostly impacted by her late onset of dementia. When Duke is reading her their love stories that she wrote with her notebook as a child, Allie cannot recall them. When Duke asks her about certain places such as the house he wanted to purchase and built up for her, she cannot attend to or process his conversation effectively. Allie had a difficult time organizing and clarifying her thoughts. To further assess Allie’s mental functioning, the Allen Cognitive Level Screen (ACLS-5) or the Mini Mental State Examination can be administered.
5. The Notebook is a lovely movie that exhibits the true colors of the effects of dementia. I would recommend that Allie’s qualities are showed more through the film. The film showed Allie almost as a lifeless soul. I think this movie is a great way for the public to visually note the quality of life of an individual with dementia and the family around
