Many young girls and even infants were being sold to families out in the countryside, who were in distraught about their sons not finding wives for themselves. The Chinese government authorities confiscated baby girls who were sold to traffickers for the price of eight dollars. The imbalanced gender ratio can be blamed for the cause of illegal sex-selective abortions.
In the culture norm of Asia it is traditionally known that parent's prefer for a boy rather than a girl. Each year in China there are millions of aspiring mothers who are coerced to get abortions or sterilizations because of the One-Child Policy.
