The story “The Ones Who Walked Away From Omelas” is by Ursula LeGuin. The writer is aware of the fact that the ideas of happiness, and in particular the happiness of an entire city of Omelas, may be a suspect concept to others. Happiness masked a kind of innocence and foolishness and lacked the difficulties that most often attributed to pain and evil desires. However, the writer insists that the people of Omelas lived complicated lives. Ethics are the standards of behavior that tell us how humans should act in situations where they find themselves. In this case, it is unethical to have a town that is supposedly “perfect”, but shadowed by evil and suffering. Also, there isn’t always good without bad following behind it. Even if that cause me pain or worse. Just as Jesus did I would do also. I honestly wouldn’t be able to sacrifice my life for the greater good to save man-kind. Although, I will be a disciple of Christ and tell people about His story and what he did. I would do for Him, whether if it’s in Omelas, or my own city. If I was in this situation, such as Omelas, I would resort to the ethical standards of “Making Decisions”. I make decisions every day that try to benefit me in my life. I try to make more positive decisions because negative ones have zero results. Omelas was described as a wonderfully made city. Happiness was found everywhere, but corruption was lurking around the corner. To be good is harder than being evil; however there is an ethical medium. Everyone is responsible for their own decisions. My choice may not be like anyone else’s. Evil is natural in this world, however being truly good is supernatural.
