Voter would like to think they can make rational decision based on small amounts of information. According to campaign researchers Sniderman, Brody, and Tetlock, it can be determined that voters use heuristics or shortcuts in place of political knowledge to make decisions when it comes time to vote, this can be called a “bounded rationality (Allen & Wilson, 2010). Voters take short cuts in order to avoid wasting time learning about every issue and every candidate. Often times voters will look into the what part best a lines with their beliefs. Then from there voter often listens to elite’s clues into which candidate they should vote for, such as the NRA backing a pro-gun candidate. Voters generally do not use heuristics thoughtful or rationally. They often just collect a small amount of information and accept is as fact because they lack the political knowledge to use the heuristics.
