The Outaw Joey Thomas Relationship

Throughout the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales directed by Clint Eastwood, Josey Wales was in a constant search for new relationships. His wife and son were brutally killed by the Union army, and Josey was out for any revenge he could get. Since the death of his family, Josey had felt a longing, whether he knew it or not, for some sort of relationship and the comfort that came with it. Even though Josey had felt as if he had nothing to lose by setting out on a journey to try to defeat the Union soldiers, he never realized that he had everything to gain by achieving it: relationships that he was longing for, and ultimately a family he could trust. Ever since Josey’s family had died, he was looking for revenge, but also a sense of purpose in life, and he found that through relationships. When Josey was sitting amongst the ashes of his burned down house and rose up, he was reborn. Josey arose from the ashes and was reborn as a man in a desperate need of a meaningful relationship and revenge on the Union soldiers who killed his family. It seemed as if Josey had found the relationship he had been
He would do anything to keep them safe, and showed them the utmost respect, even including not spitting his chewing tobacco on the ground in the house. To the others, this was a sign of utmost respect because Josey spat everywhere. Josey would also do anything to keep his family safe. He risked his life to talk to Ten Bears, even something Lone Watie did not think that Josey would come back alive from. Laura Lee was an especially important part of Josey’s new family. Her gift of a watch band made out of her own hair brought Josey back into time. She served as a goddess to Josey, and helped to bring him back from the Underworld, and back into the conscious.
