Sexual Harassment In The Out Come
This movie in my opinion was not only very entertaining it was very eye opening to see the effect of sexual harassment in a job setting. I was alarmed and sadden to see nobody believe these innocent women. It baffled me, that men actually behave in this manner and that people accept the fact it happens. I was almost in tear as I was so in shock of what these women had to go though and the disgusting things the men did to them. The out come was very satisfying for me to see. The main character, Josey Aimes and her father have a strained relationship that plays a large role in this film. Her father is ashamed of Josey and lets her mother and her know it. Her father held the power in the family and house. As Josey was raped at a young age and …show more content…
That was a very powerful comment to say, as he was referring to his daughter as a “whore” again. He was naive to the situation Josey was in, as if he almost took the husbands side. Her father judged everything Josey did and had done. As Josey never got her fathers approval and felt as though she was a shame to him, she began to resent him. I believe her father plays such a powerful role in this film because he starts off at the mining job like the rest of the guys, he doesn’t want his daughter to be there nor does anyone else. He does not speak up about the sexual assaults reoccurring on the job site, nor does any other guy. Until he sees the outcomes of his daughter he starts to realize how sexist the work place is to these women. As he speaks up to the men, he opens many eyes, he starts to fight for his daughter and believes in her. Her father fights for not only her in the court and against …show more content…
One of the foreman states “all sorts of things a woman shouldn’t be doing if you ask me”. This statement is very sexist and lets us know how much the men hate the fact the women work with them and do a good job, just like they do. He is suggesting than men are not capable of doing men’s work, there for they are less than men. The men feel like they need to compete with the women and they do that by harassment. The men in the movie and on job sites harass women to see what the can take, and do see how much it takes for them to quit. I believe the men wanted the women to quit there for harassing them also. The men wanted to see how the women reacted because it was a source of entertainment for them. As Sherri was being pushed in the porta potty, men were laughing and gathering around as it was a show. The men thought it was funny, they thought it made themselves look cool and powerful. I will never be able to understand the things those men did to the women on the job site. Nobody should ever be called such names or assaulted in those manners. I do not think I could justify a reason for the harassment that occurred on the mine or ever for that

This is how Jenson and her fellow woman peers felt about working at Eveleth Taconite Co. These woman worked alongside many men who used abusive language, stalking, threats, intimidation, and sexual harassment. Jenson tried fighting for herself and others by filing a complaint, but that made matters worse because then the retaliation was slashed tires. This lead to Jenson asking for compensation for damages and mental anguish, but Eveleth Taconite Co. did not agree. Eventually Jenson left because of post-traumatic stress disorder. After years of fighting they finally came to an agreement and settled outside of court. Eveleth Taconite Co. should have handled the situation from the beginning by having classes and training on sexual harassment and holding people accountable to not have a hostile work environment. Instead they chose to hide it, and not treat all their employees especially the woman equally. That was a hard and expensive lesson they had to learn, but it allowed to show other companies to be aware of sexual harassment, and to know that isn’t something that should be…

The film chronicles the histories of three fathers, and manages to relates and link their events and situations. First is Mitchell Stephens and his relationship with his drug-addict daughter. Second is Sam, and the secret affair he is having with his young daughter Nicole. He is somewhat of a narcissistic character because of his preoccupation with himself and pleasing himself, and his lack of empathy throughout the film for the others in the town. Third is Billy, who loves his two children so much that he follows behind the school bus every day waving at them. Billy is also having an affair with a married woman who owns the town's only motel. On the exterior the town is an average place with good people just living their lives. But, beneath all the small town simplicity is a web of lies and secrets, some which must be dealt with in the face of this tragedy.…

Although Jose is a talented student, he often gets caught in mischievous activities. He drinks a little too much one-day, and burns a shack down, as well as throwing a rock at his teacher. I believe that Jose was just being a typical kid in these instances but something that is very striking is the close family ties. The relationship between Jose’s grandmother and Jose plays a huge part in Jose’s education. It is obvious that being close with your family is very common to African culture. A general theme that I saw in this movie stresses respect for elders.…

It is a glimpse into how differently a father would raise his children if given a chance to do so without interference or boundaries. It reminds us that once parents learn to listen to each other instead of fighting with each other during divorce proceedings they will finally come around to doing what is best for their children. The movie introduces the viewers to the changing dynamic of the American family. Mothers are no longer stay at home moms who simply tend to children and cook meals. These days women like Miranda Hillard (Sally Field) are career driven heads of industries. It is also not uncommon these days to find a stay at home dad like Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams). The problem with this situation is that even though mothers bring home the bacon, they are still expected to come home and perform their wifely and motherly duties. Something that society has not once, throughout the history or marriages expected from the husband and father. Such a situation indeed takes its toll on any marriage and weakens the foundation of the…

For ten years I worked in a collectivism culture driven by high power distance, charismatic and team oriented leadership where managers had the ability to expect high performance outcomes, motivate and build effective teams for common purposes, and employees had low engagement in making decisions. I moved overseas and over the past five years I have been working in an individualistic culture driven by autonomous leadership, low power distance and encouragement of more open discussions to solve problems.…

The passage starts out with a tone of easy humor, which then changes into a heavy sense of obligation and irony. An easy, carefree relationship is quickly established through the mother’s words, which hold such pride and hope for her children, coupled with humorous descriptions such as the “blue wig” on her head, or a coat so large “you’ll only be able to see [her] eyes”. This lift in emotions only serves to accentuate the sudden weight that is attached to Rodriguez’ words in the following paragraphs. Words like “tired”, “uncomfortably warm” and “listless”, which, when coupled with a focus on material value in the second paragraph, evoke a sense of obligation instead of joy. This change in tone also serves to show the irony of the situation, for even though the predictions proudly made by the mother had come true, they now carry none of the initial joy they had in the past. These descriptions, when contrasted with the opening paragraph, work to reveal the lost relationship, a change from the carefree past to the present.…

Firstly, the belief that there is a constant presence of sexism in the places of employment is an irrational fiction exaggerated by neo-feminists who believe that men in the workplace absolutely despise and objectify women. Women in today’s society hear these rumors about sexism and are extremely discouraged because they think that no matter how hard they may work, that a man will be chosen anyway. Tales such as this are perpetuated by the new wave of feminism and they are extremely effective because it plays to the victim complex of a person or group. This is not to say that sexism never happens in the workplace. The U.S. EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) received over 14,000 complaints of…

Every year women across the world seek counsel from Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) due to unwanted sexual advances, hostile work environment, lack of management training, neglecting to respond to employee complaints, and sex discrimination. In certain corporations such as prisons and farm houses women are seen as prey to men. Female workers have decided to not endure the harassment, unwanted advances, to be ignored by management, and not be judged or taken advantage of because of their sex. I was motivated by the two articles to bring awareness of sexual harassment by men that are in management positions and take advantage of their roles in the workplace.…
