“They are right. You are hood,” (S.E. Hinton, page 15). This quote describes the Greasers in the story The Outsiders. This story is about two groups called the Socs (socials) and the greasers. Ponyboy and Johnny gang member of the Greasers, get into a brawl and end up a death of a Socs member, the boys were forced to go into hiding. Soon the Greasers go into a battle with the Socs. While some Greasers try to achieve redemption, others meet tragic ends. They are two completely different groups of people yet with so many things in common whether they know it or not. “My hair is longer than a lot of boys wear theirs, squared off in the back and long at the front and sides, but I am a Greaser and most of my neighborhood rarely bothers to get a haircut,” (S.E. These guys are known as the Socs. The Socs are the rich kids who always jump Greasers just for the fun of it. “How’d you like that haircut to begin just below the neck?” (S.E. Hinton, page 5). This showed how aggressive and the threats the Socs would make towards the Greasers before beating them up. “Maybe the two different worlds we live in weren't so different. We saw the same sunset,” (S.E. Hinton, page 41). The main idea of this quote is even though they live in two different environments, but they both end their day the same way. The two groups are in some type of gang. They both like to get into trouble and fights.\ “He liked to show he didn’t care whether there was a law or not,” (S.E. Hinton, page 20). This applies to both the Greasers and the Socs. At some point in the book they didn’t care if they broke the law or not, they just did what they felt was right.
