The Overall Theme Of Loss In 'The Giver'
This text had an overall theme of loss. This is where I can relate personally to London the most as when she found out that Jonas had died, she felt guilty because she knew that as an older sister, her responsibility was to take care of her younger sibling. I understand these emotions because when my grandfather passed away, I had to deal with the idea of being guilty because I couldn’t help him or take his pain away, so when he died, it was as if a part of me died too. I also believe that this happens to a lot of people in today's society as when they experience this type of situation, they become unsure of how to deal with their feelings, ending up with blaming themselves for something they didn’t even do which could possibly result in deadly
decision. This has made feel like we should take the time off to appreciate the things we have in life, like friends and family because we are not sure if tomorrow is guaranteed.
