Even though people should think about others, they tend to put themselves first and do what is best for them. For example, there was concentration camps where Jews were placed due to the fact that Hitler believed they were guilty for Germany losing World War I. During this period of time, the United States was not aware of the Holocaust according to them. Elie Wiesel’s …show more content…
was a victim of the Holocaust. He was bothered by the fact that one stood up for him and the other victims while he was in the horrible concentration camps. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise to the Americans, which was the reason United States decided to join World War II. As soon as the United States joined, the Great Depression was over because of all the jobs opening up. The men were recruited to the military, so the women were the designated people to be working in the factories. Women risked their lives every day to make a single bullet for the war. There was a wall between whites and people of color in the military, which was no surprise at this period of time. African Americans were not allowed to be in the same combat groups as the whites. This segregation in the military only made the African Americans unite as one and attempt to end segregation after the war. During this time of desperation, people looked past the differences and fought as one united country.
All humans have feelings no matter what they believe in or what the complexion of their skin is. There should not be any separations because of variation in people. In recent events, the new president of the United States, Donald Trump, has made remarks of certain religions and races. People decided to protest at his inauguration due to their difference in political view. Right now Americans are in a frightened stage due to the changes Donald Trump wants to make. The important thing is that the people who are protesting came together and made one big group. There is no need for violence; being united should be enough. People have to learn that everyone is the same. The beliefs of other people should not classify them. People with a different color of skin should not be separated. Others should respect that one person’s opinion on politics. Every single person should learn to see past the dissimilarity between them and others. Once Americans learn how to work together, they will see how life could be better.
When something tragic happens, people are quick to ask for help because it is needed, yet they think twice to aid someone else.
They expect for everyone to get together and help out in any way. During The Holocaust, the individuals who did not agree with the concentration camps should have put themselves in the jews’ shoes and imagine how it would feel to be in that position. As human beings, it takes time to process things before acting on it. For example, an African American could be involved in a car accident, and that individual could get all the blame because of their race. Human beings have to learn how to be fair to each other. There is no way the world would advance from all the violence and disasters going on if people cannot find peace within themselves. In current events, it is common to see racism on social media, but when a white person comes out as a criminal all the whites seem to be understanding. There was a trend going on last year when African American men were getting shot for no reason. The people who do not care about the differences were defending the colored people. Then there were those who would not listen to the story and just label the colored people as criminals. This is just another reason to be in agreeance with Wiesel’s quote because humans need to stop and think what they can change in order to become
united.
It will take time to make everyone understand the variance there is between people. At the end, people will learn how to get along with people of different skin tones, religions, and political views. “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” Mother Teresa. One day everyone will remember how we all are one.
