didn’t make it. They appointed him as chanler. The president died and Hitler became President. The rest is history.
In class we read the memoir Night, it is about 15 year old Elie Wiesel’s time at five different concentration camps. We read an article before we read the book and in the article he said that he wasn’t going to write about his time at the camps but he wants to remind people that the holocaust did happen so it won't happen again. Then we read Eli’s The Perils of Indifference speech.
In the speech he says how thankful he is for the americans for how mad they were at Germany when they saved him. His big main idea in the speech is indifference. He says that indifference means “no difference.”. So the speech is saying doing nothing is not just a sin it is a punishment. He also says that it is more dangerous than anger and hatred.
Lastly, we read Eli’s Nobel peace prize acceptance speech. In this speech he talks about why would anyone want to turn their back on the suffering of innocent people. It’s our duty to protect the suffering of people no matter the circumstance. If no one helps them then the person who is doing the suffering thinks it’s okay and it makes the problem worse. So it is the same the other texts, not saying anything might protect you but it don’t help anyone else. In all of these writings that Elie Wiesel's has wrote he talks about the same thing. How it is important to speak out to help others. He wants to make sure that this doesn’t happen again to anyone else. He also talks about how we shouldn’t forget the people who died because they did nothing. I will forever remember the Holocaust because I am part German and ashamed at what they thought was okay. I do not want it to happen to anyone else. I have seen movies and I have read books and I cry every time, it was a very sad time period. Thank you for reading my
essay.
