Reading Log: The perks of being a wallflower:
1. What do you find out about the main character?
2. What is your first impression of the main character?
3. Describe his family?
4. Does Charlie seem to have many friends or does he seem lonely?
5. Quote: Some kids look at me strange in the hallways because I don't decorate my locker, and I'm the one who beat up Sean and couldn't stop crying after he did it. I guess I'm pretty emotional. p.9. What do you get from this quote? What does it tell you about the main character?
6. What issue/issues does the first few letter deal with?
7. The main character is a high school student, can you relate to any of the issues that he discusses in the first few letters?
8. Who is Patrick? Describe your first impression of him?
9. How does your impression about the characters change as the story goes along?
10. Who do you think Charlie was writing to? Does it ultimately matter whom, or even if he is, writing to someone? Why or why not?
11. Who did you identify with the most? Did you see parts of yourself in any one specific character?
12. Discuss Charlie’s character. Is he sympathetic? Would you be friends with Charlie? Why or why not?
13. What do you think kept Charlie from “participating” when he entered high school? What held him back? Have you ever felt this way before?
