The Plan Short Story Theme

The short story, “The plan,” is about the narrator, the protagonist of the story, who strongly believed that Greg and Amanda, partners in crime, wanted to kill her in order to have $10 million for themselves. The money was originally stolen by all three people from the bank. The story takes place in modern day California where a lot of bank robbery happens in real life to make the story seem more realistical. Since this story is told in the narrator's perspective as though he or she was retelling their own particular story, the method of narration would be 1st person major. This perspective would be constructive in the story to astound the reader with a little twist in the ending. The main conflict in the story is man vs himself because the
I intentionally wanted the narrator to seem ingenious, smart, and clever. The narrator is a very logical person who would calculate the percentage of how much he can trust Greg and Amanda by using socratic irony to retrieve information and use that evaluation to come to a decision in the end of the story which is to kill them. In addition, the narrator’s actions are very precise and measured. For example, when the narrator was creating his plan to steal $10 million, the protagonist planned by every second which showed his explicitness. Also, while the narrator was cooking breakfast, his or her usage of measuring cup for making waffles strengthens this characteristic and shows that the protagonist is precise and diligent even with his daily activities. Regarding appearance, the narrator’s outfit was immaculate and when it was paired up with his nerdy glasses, it highlighted his visual articulation of clever and neat personality. This made it seem like the protagonist was purposefully trying to make him or herself look smarter and better than the rest of the crew
