Body Cameras How many times have you heard, read, or seen a story about a policeman abusing their power?
But are all the stories as believable as they seem or do people and news stations change things to look different than they are. If so, how do we solve this issue how can we make things less complicated for both parties involved?
Since things are not always as they seem, how can we have a view on everything that is happening. The only way to fix this problem is to enforce a law where all officers must wear a body camera at all times while out on the line of duty. This will minimize from any incident not being properly recorded, this will help avoid any misunderstandings. Body cams will not only help the officers, but also for the other party involved. The case of victim or culprit Michael Brown a young man who lost his life. Something happened between this boy and the police officer in the officer’s car. Was the victim mistreated by the officer causing him to run away? Or was the officer wrongly accusing the boy when he approached the vehicle. What events lead up to the officer getting out of his vehicle and shooting that many bullets at this young man? The only way we would have known for sure is if the officer in question was wearing a body cam.
Let me tell you what results we expect from the body cams. We expect to be able to take a walk in the shoes of this officer. If a gun was pulled on say an individual who at this time was being pulled over for a routine traffic stop. What events lead up to the officer feeling compelled to pull a gun. Was the person violent? Did he or she pull a gun or did a misunderstanding occur? Only with a body came to record every step the officer took leading to the event.
