Blacks, for the most part, weren't allowed to vote nor serve
in jury duty. this can be caused by the fact that they were mostly discriminated among the government officials and the population. Their political rights weren't given to them - the ability to vote and to serve on jury duty. In document A, solely five of the sixteen states allowed free blacks to vote and just one state allowed blacks to serve in jury duty. This illustrates how the political rights of blacks was extremely limited. Some even had to pay fines to vote. the general public backlash of the blacks caused the aspect of political stance to fall. that's an aspect of freedom that the blacks were restricted on. only one hundred of the 11,000 blacks in new york had the power to vote. this is because those one hundred blacks had to pay to vote. The 24th amendment prevented the denial of requiring citizens to have to pay a fine in order to vote.
