One reason people have been people have been skeptical about gun buy-backs is because their are so many guns in America that are in the hands of citizens. Their is more than 283 million guns in American, and a small number of those are in the hands of the United States military and the United States police (Gun sales). The amount of guns being collected at gun buy-backs are not nearly close to the amount of guns that exist in the United States of America as a whole. Studies have been shown that buybacks programs doesn't work. When some people go to buybacks they are turning in al readying broken guns, or guns with problems. Not many of the guns that were collected, were even the types of guns used to commit gun crimes (Wogan). This shows that some people are turning in guns just to get money. With the few requirements that gun buyback programs have on gun people are able to do this. By people turning in old guns it can mean that they have plans to purchase more. If a gun doesn't work, what sense does it make to turn it. People take gun buyback for advantage. If people are going to buy new guns with the money they get from the buy back, it defeats the purpose to hold gun buyback events. People purchasing new guns can add to the number of deaths due to gun
