There have been many complaints against the CBP agents.
Numerous children are claiming that Border Patrol agents are mistreating them by not feeding them and denying them proper medical care. Many children have called out the CBP by telling their stories. Children who are under the Border Patrol’s custody said that the agents would come in late at night and hit the walls with their batons to do a count. A girl claimed that she was forced to drink water from a toilet tank because she was denied water (Burnett). Many young immigrants have spoken about the horrible cells the Border Patrol agents keep them in. They call them “las hieleras,” known as
freezers. An 11-year old named Sixta said that she was put in a cell that was so cold that she got sick and was not given any medication. She was sick for so long that her nose and throat started bleeding. Sixta said that she asked for a doctor, but the Border Patrol ignored her request. She said that her time in the cell was the worst part of her journey, and she still has nightmares about the cell she was in (Burnett). The stories the children share say a lot about the Border Patrol agents. The facilities minors are sent to are in a horrible and unsanitary condition. One factor that makes these facilities unsanitary is that they have do not have enough supplies for each individual. The large masses of undocumented immigrants coming into the U.S. make it difficult for the Border Patrol agents because there are a lot of people to handle and take care of.
