The Pros and Cons of Online College Education
Introduction
The inception of online colleges has proved to be a milestone achievement in the field of education. Today, there are a number of online colleges to choose from across every field of education. Some of them are dedicated institutions that only provide online education and others are regular colleges that have introduced online education as a new channel for providing learning.
The main reason for the growth in popularity of online colleges is the convenience to study from the comfort of your home and also according to your desired time. However, just like any other mode of education, online colleges too have their own pros and cons. They are as follows:
Pros
Flexible scheduling – Perhaps the biggest advantage of studying in an online college is flexible scheduling. If you are a working individual or have certain responsibilities to fulfill, such as raising children, online colleges is the best form of education as it allows you to learn as per your schedule.
Telecommuting – If your residence is at a location which does not have good colleges or universities in the vicinity, online colleges are a favorable option as they require you to have just an internet connection. Ease of access is one great advantage of online colleges.
Cost savings – Generally, the cost of enrolling in an online college is much less compared to regular colleges or universities. Moreover, students also save on transportation costs and spending on food and housing. Therefore, online colleges can also be considered a cost effective option.
Learn at your pace – The pace at which you study in online colleges is not dependent on the tutors or the rest of the class. You can take your own time to learn and understand things properly. Alternatively, you also get the option of adopt a fast track learning approach.
Convenience – One of the important advantages of studying in online colleges is the convenience of learning at home and in a manner best suited to you. You can also take
