adequacy (Elizabeth Anderson): The misrecognition is providing disadvantaged students with an adequate education. The students who have high socioeconomic status receive a better education than those who have disabilities and those who come from low socioeconomic households. With these students not receiving equality in the education system, they often are at a disadvantage in job opportunities and therefore, are unable to move up in socioeconomic status (595). Students who start off at a disadvantage, are not accommodated for, which is why they remain at an educational disadvantage. These disadvantages make it harder for them to pursue post-secondary education and leaves them in a cycle of poverty because they’re unable to move up the economic ladder (616). a. inequality (Harry Bridghouse and Adam Swift): Inequality plays a significant role in misrecognition because often times there’s a lot of inequity in the education system, and when we fail to recognize that, it impacts our society negatively. Those who are not getting equitable education often don’t get the recognition they deserve because not many know how to advocate for themselves. We are still striving for equity in our education system is because not everyone is educated to a high standard. In doing so, it allows us to slowly close the gap between socioeconomic classes. It’s important to give recognition to the minority and strive for equality because everyone deserves to be treated equally and provided the same opportunities as non-minority
