It is important to know what the animals are being fed and how they are treated because we end up eating all of that. If they are given pesticides and aren’t cleaned right then essentially we are eating that and could get sick from it. In fact, Industrial produced meats had more consumer health reports than that of non industrial meat. Non industrial farmers give their animals what they are meant to eat which gives them the proper nutrients and in turn it gives us the proper nutrients. Also, the way the animals are being handled and packaged caused less contamination in the non industrial farms. Joel Salatin, owner of Polyface Farms, cuts his meat outside in the open air. According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) it was unsanitary, but when the meat was being cultured in a microbiology lab it was found to be cleaner and carry less bacteria then a store bought meat. The main concern is cost wise because organic food is more expensive and sometimes you are paying for less than what you would get when buying non organic food. For people with a lower income these prices are not ideal. Also, there aren’t very many locations where you could find organic products. Especially if you’re not living in a wealthy neighborhoods. Stores such as Trader Joes, Whole Foods, or Sprouts are not as accessible as a Safeway, Food max, or Savemart. Not only that, but customers are concerned if the non industrial system can even meet the needs of the people as fast as industrial farms can. Industrial farms were designed to manufacture meats at rapid rates and people are unsure non industrial farms can keep up with the demands. At this point in time, the needs cannot be
