However, in the wake of so many recent tragic events involving gun violence, many groups argue about whether the Second Amendment actually protects the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, or a right that can be exercised only through military organizations. With that said, I began to question if the Second Amendment of the Constitution should be revised or remain as is. Does this law cause more harm than good?

That is about the time politicians began restricting gun ownership and use. No matter where you stand on the issue, the controversy will be over how much control the state or nation may have over what is determined to be a Constitutional right. As I continue to contemplate the matter, I continue to question whether or not the Second Amendment causes more harm than good. Some of my questions still remain unanswered. One might state, “Is it due to the lack of research available?” My response is simply, “No, it is because the current wording of the Second Amendment is so

The interpretation of the “Standard Model” of the Second Amendment guarantees the right of individual Americans to own and carry firearms. This interpretation represents a part of American history that is foundational to the Second Amendment and that many collective rights theorists would prefer to erase. The collective rights theory is that arms are only to be used in connection with a militia. The history of America and its creation of the Constitution, as well as its Bill of Rights, is so fundamentally important to us today in preserving our civil liberties, that it is paramount we resist the temptation to avoid or eradicate any part of this important history with all of its milestones. If there were one message on the Second Amendment that should be conveyed, it would be to learn of our American Constitutional history in the…

The Second Amendment was drafted as a part of the Bill of Rights in 1789, and yet issues on its interpretation are still prevalent today. The amendment is so controversial that our jurisprudence related to the subject varies on all ends of the spectrum. We treat it as though all interpretations are ambiguous, even though simple reasoning proves otherwise. The Second Amendment in our Bill of Rights guarantees that “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”…

The Second Amendment of United States reads, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. " This amendment has a very strong controversially from the public nation. Also, I think it's one of the most vague and complex sentence among all the Amendments. Until the Supreme Court's decision in (2008) where they decide “in a five four decisions the Court held that it did, striking down a Washington, D.C. law that banned handgun possession in home.” The nation were told for over decades that the Second Amendment didn’t promise or even mentioned about an individual right.…

The second amendment states “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right to the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” To an average person this means that anyone at anytime should be able to possess a gun without being questioned. However, if you interpret the amendment based on vocabulary I believe this means that a trained group of people who have the countries best interest at hand to protect are the one protected under the constitution. Today there is a lot of debate about control and whether or not people should be aloud to have guns.…

One idea why I think some people and most weapons should not apply to the 2nd Amendment, the number of people hurt or killed by assault weapons has decreased since they restricted the availability of it. According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, in 1993, the year before the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, the number of the 19 assault weapons banned by name under current law they traced back was 8.2%. The ban went into effect on 13 September 1994 and the number of weapons they traced back was…

Since the birth of the United States gun control has been a constant in American’s lives. Many people believe that by banning guns it would be harder for dangerous people to get guns. But the fact is criminals will still be able to acquire guns. Banning of guns, as shown above by the U.S. Department of Justice, would not reduce crime. Hunters do have the right to hunt for food and pleasure. The Second Amendment has become the most talked about amendment in recent times. I am sure that this has become the forefront of most political person’s discussions in recent times because of the violence that has taken hold of our society. Is it that guns need to be controlled or the people using them? After all, it isn’t guns that kill people, its people that kill people. But as it pertains to the second amendment, is our current government trying to impede our second amendment right to bear arms? This is a personal opinion I feel, and is not black and white.
