First of all, banning all handguns does not allow for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves. Some people may think that banning handguns will decrease violent crime. However, that will take away the rights of the people that follow the law and use guns for self-defense. Despite the fact that using an automatic gun will make it much easier, you should not own a gun unless you know a lot about guns and how to use them. President Obama called for a renewed ban on automatic and semi-automatic guns. They were used by both accused Aurora movie theater shooter James Holmes and Connecticut gunman Adam Lanza. If a child finds a gun in their house the chances of himself or someone around him would probably decrease if the gun is not automatic because the gun is more easier to shoot. If you want to protect yourself with a gun you don't need an automatic or semi-automatic gun to do so.
