The recovery model have created a wide spared international movement within the healthcare ranks, bringing its identity into a clearer focus through the lens of government funded agencies, health care communities, as well as other interested parties and groups in how they view mental illness and it’s diagnosis (Gehart, 2014). The recovery model ambition is to establish the tools and resources to restore a healthy and manageable way of living creating a meaningful life. Through a positive development for creating change with this model, clients can participate in their social environment through the context of social interaction and relationships (Best, Beckwith, Haslam, Haslam, Mawson, & Lubman, …show more content…
2016). The recovery model is a transformation vehicle with guiding principle and fundamental components within the model to enable clients to eliminate or manage their particular illness through the process of change to function back into their social environment with or without their disability (Best, Beckwith, etc., 2016).
There has been debate concerning the meaning or definition about the recovery model that have emerged from the international consumer movement about server mental illness (Gehart, 2014).
My definition of the recovery movement model; is a comprehensive written literature of studies providing distinctive concepts and scope of recovery principle approaches, within its essential component that reflect and support the achievement of the recovery experience for the consumer who has been diagnosed with a health disorder. The recovery movement model is describe more as person-centered. Because, the recovery model has a holistic oriented view which encompasses the consumer with health disorder whole life, that includes his/her mind, body, spirit, and community( Corrigan, …show more content…
2015). Also, in the recovery model there are many other elements within its framework of development, such as culture, relationship and social networks and being self-driven just to name a few (Aldersey, Adeponle, & Whitley).
One of the most important concept with this recovery model is creating a developmental process that is geared toward the client makeup as well as constructing a maintenance of relational recovery that is guided by the therapeutic oriented recovery principle( Snyder, Schactman, & young 2015). By dissecting the recovery model, we can find a reservoir of definition under the umbrella that would give credence to its meaning. The recovery model can be cover at least within three definitions of recovery: functionality, personal focus of recovery and current symptom, this can be argued because of the complexities within the framework of the recovery
model.
The recovery model has a descriptive meaning rather than simply reducing symptom by treating the illness related to mental health diagnosis. The recovery model objectives is centered on helping client to lead rich, meaningful, and productive lives. Also, this model provide favorable options for the client to strive and achieve his or her maximum potential in whatever community the client choose to resided(Gehart, 2014). This model coincide more with the social model rather than a medical model, which down play the diagnostic labeling and accentuates the psychosocial functioning which is the trademark of family therapy approaches (Gehart, 2014).
The major concepts of the recovery model is an correlation concepts of elements within its components linking each together depicting the path that’s guide the journey toward a successful personal recovery. One of the major concepts, which others concepts are linked, to the transformation process of healing through the journey of change. This include the sense of self or person-driven, management of disability, willingness, hope, and responsible of his/her action. These are some of the essential components for the process of change within the major concepts in the recovery model (Song, 2017).
There are other concepts which has little fanfare when it come to the major concept of recovery, and it deals with the discussion about the client characterizing their own recovery experiences(Best, Anderson, Irving, & Edwards, 2017). The therapist should conceptualize and asses the client attitude toward their own recovery as they go through the recovery process in order to keep the treatment process stabilize and resulting in a more successful outcome. But, understanding the major concepts helps the therapist to identify or discover unknown variables which could cripple the treatment process for a successful outcome for the client (Song, 2017). With the client experience negative and positive attitude as well as the different elements such as the support from family, friends, relationships, and community along with the client illness can play a significant role toward the client wellbeing through the process of treatment (Marshall, Deane, Crowe, White, & Kavanagh, 2013).
Postmodernism and social constructionism is related to the recovery model by advocating the same philosophical perspective and principles. The philosophical perspective and principles of the postmodernism and social constructionism, has been the most influential in the development of new psychotherapy model such as solution focused, collaborative, and narrative therapies which associate or fall under the recovery model regime (Gehart, 2014). Also, the postmodernism and social constructionism relates to the recovery model from the same perspective on diagnostic labeling. Because, diagnoses are labels which client’s uses the term to inform their identity, which often quiet down their unrecognized ability such as their strengths, resiliencies, and capabilities (Gehart, 2014). The recovery model as well as postmodern and social modernism recognize that
