The breakdown of food beings in the mouth, when the person chews the food in order to break it down in small peace in order to increase the surface area of the food to maker easier the absorb. The food that has been break into little pieces gets mixed up with the saliva that will realise enzymes in order to get nutrients from the food. After this process, the food is then swallowed and travels through the oesophagus to the stomach where the digestion will take place.
