The Review of Forrest Gump Movie
Forrest Gump, directed by Robert Zemeckis is a six Academy Awards winner (1995) love-or-hate story of a journey through life of a simple man. Gump (Tom Hanks), continually finds himself in the middle of important events from the late 50's through the 70's including a meeting with Elvis Presley, JFK and Richard Nixon. Without effort of his own he is a witness of almost all major historical moments in the United Stated, however he takes part in them without understanding what he does and sees. It is worth noticing that Gump is not an ordinary character. He is a young Alabaman of slight intelligence who lives by the rules that was drilled into him by his mama (Sally Field). Even though Forrest has an IQ of only 75 and his early life was obstruct by legs handicap, his sense of self, grown by mother, couldn't be any bigger.
His mother's wisdom, straightforwardness and luck leads him to become a world-class runner, champion football, ping-pong player and owner of business that turns out to be very successful. The weak point in this life of ultimate happiness is love of Forest's life – Jenny Curran (Robin Wright). Abused by her father as a child, Jenny seems to be in constant torment and in search of her place in life: from being a hippie and a folk singer to a stripper and political activist. In spite of Jenny's behavior, Gump loves her, because in fact he loves everybody. His shortsightedness and naivety surprisingly didn't do him any harm, on the contrary, all the bad events, like death of Jenny, are easily explain in mothers words "Mama said you've got to put the past behind you".
But there is a sense in making Forrest do silly acts or quote mama's words of wisdom, that are true only on the lowest logical level. Zemeckis tries to play on the sentimental tune, mixing a comedy with a drama. The goal to make a funny film which touches in the real way at the same time wasn't archive at the end. In this movie laughs come easily, but not everyone will give a damn to

Watching the movie Forest Gump for the first time, it was difficult to categorize. Was it a drama? Was it s Comedy? Was it a war film? Was it a historical film? It really fit into all of those categories. It was an unconventional film about the history of America over 30 years, seen through the eyes of a mentally challenged man with an IQ below 65. It was a modern fable, a dreamlike fairy tale, on how to live one’s own life to the fullest. The movie was enhanced greatly by the use of voice-over narration. Forrest (Tom Hanks) participated in the action of the story, but also acted as the narrator. In the background of the narration, soft music was playing at times. The movie Forrest Gump, was filled with much detailed, essential information and multiple twists. There was not a visual way through action to advance the plot or characters through action. Voice-over narration was used, which allowed me to go inside the experience of the characters. Much of the movie’s humor came from Forrest’s voice-over narration. The story was narrated from a bus-stop bench by Forrest. The narration was in a third-person view, with what sounded like an Alabama accent. Forest unwittingly simplified major historical events and sometimes got them wrong. An example was when Forrest described the Ku Klux Klan. He described how they would dress up in bed sheets and ride around on their horses, acting like a bunch of ghosts or spooks. The voice of Forrest had a neutral tone to it. It allowed me to see Forrest’s side, but also allowed me to draw my own opinion. There was a scene in the movie where Forrest breaks out of his leg braces as he ran away from a pack of bullies. Forrest was clear in his narration, and never lost focus despite the intense action taking place in the scene. There was another scene in the movie where…

I choose Forrest Gump as a historical movie. The movie was about a young man with a mental disability that goes through this major event in the 1960 – 1970s not only that but it was kind of romantic. Though out the entire movie, Forrest seems to be going along with the time line in his life looking for his first true love Jenny. Mean while she is living it out as a hippie tagging along with the wrong crowd and as for Forrest he maintains hope that one day she will love him. Not only that but the events that he lived in leads him to become a war hero and a billionaire. In the end he realize that life keeps on going as a “destiny or floating alike a breeze”.…

Robert Zemeckis also explores the ironic nature of belonging as it demonstrates a lack of understanding one endures through a search for acceptance and belonging. In a particular scene Forrest chooses to join the army, the decision works well for Forrest as it’s the first time in his life where he eventually understands that he belongs. As Forrest gains a sense of acceptance for who he is and it is through this that Forrest is able to establish his sense of self realisation and belonging. The line “To do whatever you tell me drill sergeant” emphasises this as it is indicating Forrest’s sense of belonging within the army through following orders. The beginning of the film shows Forrest’s lack of belonging through not having a sense of understanding towards society the line “and just like that she was gone out of my life again” uses negative emotive language to help show the relationship in which Forrest and Jenny have as…
