Girshriela’s story is the most detailed and depressing story I listened to. It consists of her struggle to provide and her strive to be a good worker so she can better provide for her six kids. It is saddening because she describes her struggle to move up the ranks of the Walmart ladder and how it took a toll on her body. She was told how working at Walmart was a career opportunity, and yet when she was a perfect worker she was just given minimal raises and forced to do even more different jobs within Walmart. I think Walmart was taking advantage of her enthusiasm to do work because she thought more work meant she would move to a higher paying position faster, but unfortunately that was not the case. They just saw an opportunity to take a worker and make them be more efficient and save some money, not at all considering that there is a human inside of this worker and that they are struggling to live let alone be pushed to the
A failure on Walmart’s part because now they are losing money paying workers comp and devastating to a woman with six kids. It was eye-opening to listen to her describe what her day to day life is like. She said that she considers luxury taking your kids to school. This really struck me because I always had my mother to drive me to school even though she worked too. I could have walked to high school in fifteen minutes, but for my mom it wasn’t even an option. What tore me up the most though was when she was describing going to bed without a good meal. The thought of my mom cooking me something and then eating it while she ate only chips makes me sick to my stomach. I know most mothers would do this but if I knew my mother was doing this I wouldn’t eat all my food and make her eat half because otherwise I would feel
