Poetry Essay #1
“The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost is about making choices. This poem has four stanzas. This poem is written entirely in first person. The two paths are symbols witch represents that everyone has choices in life. In my opinion, “The Road Not Taken” means that even though people might not be making the right choice go with what feels right.
The first thing that I’ve seen in this poem is sadness. For example, “ I doubt if I should ever come back” (677). This line means that he never thinks that he will be back to this point in his life again. For example, “I shall be telling this with a sigh ”(677). This line means that the speaker may regret the choice he made. Making choices can be frustration. For example, “and be one traveler, long I stood” (677). This line means that the speaker stood for a long time before he chose what road to go down. For example, “two roads diverged in a wood, and I-“(677). The dash in this line means that he is pausing which means that he is frustrate about which road to go down. My final point is that people have the opportunity to make unique choices. For example, “I took the road less traveled by”(677). This means that he took the road that he thought would be better. Another example is “that has made all the difference”(677). This means that is happy about his choice to go down the “road less traveled.” In my opinion, “The Road Not Taken” means that it is hard to make choices. In this poem I’ve seen sadness. Making choices is frustrating. People have the opportunity to make unique choices. These points prove my interpretation of Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken.”
