In The Road Not Taken, a diverged road halts a traveler’s journey. In the first stanza of the poem, the traveler states, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood/ And Sorry I could not take both” (Lines 1-2). The traveler has to make one choice and only one choice, as he is only one person. Robert Frost uses the diverging paths to symbolize the different choices an individual has to make to further progress with their life. Thus, supporting the theme of making choices throughout life.
Upon making these choices, a variety of new events come forth.
As explained in the beginning of the second stanza: “Then took the other, as just fair, / And having perhaps a better claim,” (Lines 6-7).
