Miss Sadie (we’ll call her) had a life altering family incident with her daughter who is also her caregiver and a home health aide. First we assessed if Miss Sadie was safe, making sure no harm would come to her, while she continued to live with her daughter while we actively searched for a new home (principle of protecting life), next the principle of equality and inequality, is Miss Sadie of sound mind and able to make decisions regarding her care and where to live, while also keeping in mind that her daughter is her Power of Attorney, as well as her Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care and currently has a say in what, where and when things happen. The principle of autonomy and freedom were discussed with Miss Sadie in determining what she would like to see and have in a new facility, as far as living space, social interactions, other amenities, including making sure her personal needs are being met along with having the ability to either still attend the adult day center, which Miss Sadie adamantly stated is most important to her, because she has friends here and this place keeps her going, and/or for making friends, socializing and taking part in daily activities at her new location. In the care of principle of least harm, making sure Miss Sadie is able to move out of her daughters home as soon as possible to keep the tension and verbal abuse at a minimum, but also allowing those assisting Miss Sadie the time necessary to find her the ideal location to call home. For Miss Sadie to enhance quality of life, she needs to move out of her daughters house, find a new home that gives her what is most important to her; nice place with amenities, daily social and activity opportunities, outings, to have things that will be of interest so she will get up, get out and continue to enjoy life. It is important to assist
