This image is from a video that shows the destroyed houses that left innocent families homeless, the dead being carried away in body bags, and (as in the image) burned bodies out in the open. The media gave people a reason to be against the war by showing these images, but it did not give people a reason to support the war. Film was flown to Tokyo to be developed and edited before being flown to the US, or being sent by satellite to the US if it was an important story. The ability to quickly prepare those images and videos to be shown on television and other news sources was a very important aspect of the media in the Vietnam War. That ability allowed the media to have information on battles on nightly news and in news papers quickly which allowed people to get information on the war quickly and around when those events were happening. The increase in American households that had television also helped the media get their message out effectively. In previous wars, including the Korean War, television had not been as common so the media would not have been able to get their stories out quickly through nightly television. The widespread use of television also made it so the media could show videos of the war with more ease. Unlike the Vietnam War, the Korean War did not have much firsthand video and images of the war. That made it so the public was not forced to confront the inconvenient reality that the war was causing destruction and costing people's lives. The absence of news about the Korean War on television was one of the main reason that the media did not cause as much opposition to the Korean War as the media had in the Vietnam War. That also happened because the media in the Korean War did not have as much freedom as the media in the Vietnam War had. While the media was able to go into combat zones frequently during the Vietnam War, there were far more restrictions on the media during the Korean War. During the Korean War, it was not possible for the media to frequently get access to combat zones. The greater amount of restrictions on media in the Korean War when compared to the Vietnam War also censored the media far more in the Korean War. That prevented the most people who were not in the war from seeing the destruction and loss of life caused by the war. However, even with all those restrictions on media reducing the amount the media increased public opposition to the war, the war still had a large amount of opposition.
