Aaron the first narrative gives us a first glimpse of this idea early on. At the end of the novel, war porn Aaron shows horrible pictures of torture in his war time in Iraq to his friends at the barbecue. When they first see those photos they are appalled of the images and and wonder why they did such bad things to these people. As Aaron explains to them what he did and the reasons they become more understanding and start to this reality. Each picture Aaron shows them is worse tun the last but by the end of the slideshow they can handle the violence than before being exposed to the pictures. Just like Aaron they become desensitizing to aspects of the war. In Wilson’s case the same can be applied he and his fellow soldiers fighting in the front line against Iraq soldiers became accustomed to the violence. Killing people, torturing them, and bombing their land became their lives. They had one purpose to win the war. This meant to they had to engage or witness inhumane acts committed by themselves and fellow soldiers. On the other side, Quasim a person who was a native to Iraq also experienced this effect. After leaving his family to further his studies and staying with his uncle, he experiences more of the facts of the war because he's closer to the battle. He and his uncles family go through many bombings, seeing people of all ages killed by american soldiers day and night. These images become engraved into their minds and ultimately accept this war as their reality just as Aaron and Wilson accepted the war. Quasim at the end goes back home to his family and wife because he realizes that their very important to hims and is not sure how long this war will last. He wants to spend time with them and enjoy their last moments together if the war destroys their
