3. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gods came off as powerful and they interfered with the lives of the humans in their own way. There are many examples in this epic poem of the Gods trying to control the lives of the humans. An example is the complications of Gilgamesh as bin the ruler. Many people complained that Gilgamesh was a ruler who did not treat his people well. To fix this situation, Aruru the Goddess of Creation created Enkidu in hopes of fixing this problem. The Gods use their powers to affect daily situations of the humans, Gilgamesh was trying to be like a God. He…
At MEND Poverty Clinic, I was surprised by how many patients do not realize that their bad habits can cause a permanent condition like periodontal disease. Lack of awareness of oral health has affected the health of my people in this community. After treating many unfortunate patients, such as a seventeen-year-old patient that needed extractions and only had few teeth left, an implant program was implemented which I am in charge with Dr. Robert Hale in order to improve the life of many…
I believe the motif of the Epic of Gilgamesh is Gilgamesh’s immortality. The hero of this epic, the demigod, Gilgamesh, was well gifted by the gods. He possessed the traits of beauty and strength, as was expressed in the opening paragraph of the Epic of Gilgamesh. “…The great gods made his beauty perfect, surpassing all others, terrifying like a great wild bull” (3). Gilgamesh wanted for nothing in the city of Uruk, as can be seen from the perspective of the men of Uruk when they stated, “Gilgamesh takes them all…” (4). Gilgamesh knew great friendship through Enkidu. While possessing many great traits, the one thing Gilgamesh did not possess and coveted was immortality. Gilgamesh confides to his friend…
Humanity needs government in order to thrive and progress. According to the documents that describe the Neolithic error, which will later be discussed in depth, the laws that were set up by government were there to guide the people in moral and spiritual conduct. Furthermore if it were not for the ‘social ladder’ created by government, there would be no aspiration for elevation which resulted in competition among the people. The government also generated the need for specialists. As the state grew, people began to specialize in various areas; the need for documentation in the form of writing grew, therefore scribes and artisans were established.…
The Epic of Gilgamesh, suggests that the people of Mesopotamia expect their rulers to be strong, heroic, fearless, unselfish, and godly. Gilgamesh is said to be two-thirds god and one-thirds human, is described as being “strong, stately, and wise” and several times throughout the epic as “accomplished in strength”. However, not everyone sees the ruler as being great. Many believe that Gilgamesh exhibits many good characteristics but lacks generosity. The nobles at the beginning of the epic are one of those peoples who complain because Gilgamesh is acting tyrannically. They suggest that although they like how Gilgamesh is heroic and godly, they would like someone more democratic to be their ruler. In one part of the epic, Gilgamesh defeats…
In Unit 4 I have learned many things about myths and rituals, the story of Epic of Gilgamesh, and the stages of the hero’s journey. These three things benefited me in different ways. I did not know anything about myths and rituals and going over the questions that you assigned in class helped me. The questions made me realize what kind of person I am. It made me answers about my rituals, and asked me about my myth opinions. It also talked about my favorite fairy tale and a mythology story that I can relate too. I am glad that you asked me these questions, because now I can tell other people about them and ask them also. Another thing that we discussed in this unit was the story of Gilgamesh. That story was interesting to me, because I have…
The Epic of Gilgamesh is about a Tyrant, Gilgamesh, who terrorized the people from his kingdom. Enkidu was created to save the people and become a companion to Gilgamesh. From the beginning, a clear and invisible bond is created. Gilgamesh and Enkidu are complete opposites that complement each other; one was an arrogant city dweller, the other a quintessential "Wildman" of the woods and plains. Gilgamesh civilizes Enkidu and Enkidu helps Gilgamesh transform into a perfect leader to his people by allowing him to better understand and identify with them. Through their friendship, Gilgamesh becomes less narcissistic and less lonesome. Gilgamesh was lonely, but did not know the extent of wanting a friend, until the moment he meets Enkidu and then loses him afterwards in the Epic. The turning point of The Epic of Gilgamesh occurs when Enkidu enters Gilgamesh’s life, and then the text takes another turn when Enkidu dies. Enkidu changed Gilgamesh’s life completely, without him, Gilgamesh would not have become a great leader and epic hero. Gilgamesh would not have changed without Enkidu because he did not see a problem with his leadership skills, he had never loved anyone more than himself, and he had not expected death to affect him on a personal level.…
Mythology is the study of myths in sacred stories that connect humans, Gods, life, death, and afterlife. Gilgamesh has many different connections between Gods and humans. It is the oldest surviving piece of literature, but is incomplete, written only on clay tablets in cuneiform ("Notes on Gilgamesh."). The mythology from the stories is talked highly about amongst historians. Many have translated the text and tried to analyze it. There is one idea that the Gods played a big role in what the Uruk people did in their everyday lives. Since the Gods were connected to them so closely, it must have an effect on their society. The question is, did mythology have a big influence on the Uruk civilization?…

In the Epic of Gilgamesh, humanity and the divine are inextricably intertwined. The gods repeatedly intervene in the lives of men when their actions make them angry, and Gilgamesh himself is part divine. What is more, the gods are associated with physical places and people, for whom they act as patrons. Shamash is Gilgamesh's patron, for example, and Anu takes care of the town of Uruk.…
Mesopotamian and Egyptian views on the afterlife correlate in many different aspects. The Mesopotamian culture found insight through the story of Gilgamesh. The story of The Epic of Gilgamesh is a western civilization historical poem that is mix of mythology and literature. It is to be believed was written around the first centuries of the second millennium B.C. considering one of the oldest, if not the oldest, ancient poem. It is about a hero who is desperate to become a god and goes an on quest for immortality. Within the pages of the old tale it reveals many hints of history, human nature, and myths of an ancient culture. Though the Sumerian Empire, the Mesopotamian culture, is long forgotten it has been told and retold by many for a reason. Is it because it’s similar views and culture? Is it because of its great story telling, its rich words? Or maybe because it enlighten the people historically? Though the tablets were founded by archaeologists in Middle East, it is a tale written by people of…
