The roles of different agencies and professionals involved in safeguarding individuals all contribute to working together to prevent and protect adults at risk from abuse. They will make sure that they empower and support people to make their own choices, to investigate actual or suspected abuse and neglect , to support adults and provide a service to adults at risk who are experiencing abuse, neglect and exploitation. This can fall under the job descriptions of many different professions. The mains ones of which are listed below:
The Police They can investigate any crimes that are committed against an individual. If possible they will prosecute a person suspected of said crimes .And they can support the individual victim of a crime.
Various Medical Professions These can examine and treat injuries, illness and medical conditions. In the case of suspected abuse they can gather evidence and used as expert witnesses if needed.
Social Workers To offer a wide range of services to an individual. They can assess what a person will need to be fully supported .Then ensure that they have access to all of those services
Criminal Records Bureau This agency protects service users and employers by undertaking a criminal record check of all prospective employees. They will inform of all criminal convictions a person has against them.
Regulatory Bodies (Eg Care Quality Commission) All care providers have to register with these. The body will then be able to regularly monitor that individuals under their care are protected at all times. They can enforce any changes need to uphold those standards.
