In The scarlet ibis there are two main boys one is only referred to
as "brother" and the others name is Doodel. Doodle has a disability and cant walk . Doodle is going to go to school in a year . His brother is emberrased at the fact that he's going to school with a brother who dosn't know how to walk given that he's old enough to go to school. Brother doesn't like the situation so he decides to resolve it by trying to get Doodle to learn how to walk. Although he is successful he did it for the wrong reason. He didn't do it to help his brother who before couldn't walk he did it for himself only.
There is one part in the book where Doodle gets up and walks across the living room and everyone was shocked .When Brother saw him get up and walk he shed a tear .Brother was crying because he realized the reason he did it for was wrong. He didn't let his family know why he was crying other than the faced that he was happy his brother walk for the first time even though he was crying for a another reason and he hid his real emotion with his family .As every one was grateful for what he had done inside he knew that he was selfish and only did it for himself because he was too embarrassed of his brother.
There's so much more to learn from reading a story through the lens of a quotation . there is whole parts of the story that might have been missed reading the story the first time around . you wouldn't realize that Brother was doing something wrong without knowing it at first and reading the story from a different perspective really helped that .
