I think it is absolutely revolting that the sexual revolution of the late 1960s and early 1970s placed a double standard on men and women. The double standard implied that females were supposed to be as modest as possible and remain chaste till marriage. In the meantime, standards for boys were merely the opposite. It seemed to be this rule didn't pose for buys, if anything they were being encouraged to not be chaste. Lisa LeClair was attempting to change these rules for women. What really triggered LeClair was the colleges unspoken endorsement to the double standard on rules of girls dormitories. LeClair can even recall being in her dorm by 9:30 and watching her boyfriend walk away into freedom. LeClair states “I can still see the image,”…
The purpose of this argument is for the writer, Nisey Williams, to state why she does not want to bring a child into a sex filled culture of so called “idols” like Britney Spears. She helps to achieve the argument that parents really need to be more aware of what enters our children’s minds. Williams gives evidence that these music icons are selling sex instead of music though the revealing clothing that they wear.…

For example, rather than degrading women, this song is elaborating on how society and the media have brainwashed women to believe that their looks and weight are more important than their knowledge. With that said, in the beginning of the video, one will see a little girl watching television. When the little girl turns on the T.V. she sees two beautiful women putting on makeup. Then, as the little girl is still watching television, we see a beautiful, skinny woman, who is obviously ditzy and has money to buy name brand clothing, getting a lot of attention from a man. At this time, the little girl sees and believes that, according to society, women will get a lot of attention from men, and have money if she is, unrealistically, skinny and beautiful. Although, the little girl then takes a stand and says “I don’t wanna be a stupid girl.” This means she does not want to be a women like the girls throughout the media. To me, this is important for women and especially young girls to see because the song, and my music video, is saying that it is okay to be different and one does not have to follow the norms of an i”deal women” like is portrayed all over television and popular…

There are many topics out there that seem to appeal to the ears of the music industry. A popular approach is to objectify women by comparing them to animals or anything that is worth less of them. This approach is extremely popular, since it is adding to the long, long list of ways society is still oppressing women in the 21st century. While you are at it, you can focus on singing about either a woman’s chest or butt or maybe including both will land you a higher spot in the music charts. As your song becomes a top hit, sooner or later, you’ll hear a 14 year old boy singing about women’s body parts, and parents will praise the music industry for exposing young children to content that sexualizes the female body.…
The age-old double standard of sexuality and gender is a historical and still currently prevalent issue that both male and females both face, though one more than the other. A double standard, as defined by Merriam Webster, is a set of principles that apples differently and usually more rigorously to one group of people or circumstances than to another. It is clearly evident that there are double standards within the sexes regarding sexuality. Women are ridiculed, shamed, and stigmatized for being sexual beings, whereas men are praised, revered, and commended for being sexual beings.…
Sexual guilt refers to a feeling of grave responsibility and remorse associated with participation in, or even thoughts and fantasies about, sexual activity. Individuals who feel guilt related to sex, or particular sexual activity, generally believe that sex (or a specific sex act) is immoral, sinful, or unclean. The understanding of guilt associated with sexual activities began with the work of the psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud (Better Sex.com, 2005).…
The song intended to inspire women to love their bodies and to take responsibility for their own beauty, which can often be opposite to what society depicts as beautiful. In reality, the song provided its audience with opposite messages as it encouraged women to seek for external validation from boys, since apparently, a woman cannot appreciate her own beauty if this one does not fit males’ standards. Additionally, Meghan Trainor’s song encouraged division between “curvy” and “skinny” people, often referring to the latter group as stupid, superficial, and irrelevant, which goes against the “self-acceptance” concept of the song. The lyrics of “All About That Bass” need to be changed to be more inclusive and to popularize the idea that what society thinks is “desirable” does not increase or decrease a woman’s…
Since the world entered the new century globalization of all aspects of people’s lives has increased. More and more companies have been transformed into MNEs. According to Rugman and Collinson (2009) the number of employees working across borders nearly tripled over the last 20 years, exposing managers to various socio-cultural and ethical issues. Geert Hofstede argues that “culture is more often a source of conflict than of synergy. Cultural differences are a nuisance at best and often a disaster” (cited in The Economist, 2008, para.4).…
Ernest Hemingway's Cat in the Rain is a story of an American married couple staying in a French hotel. The main character in this story is the unnamed female who is one of the two Americans in this story. Hemingway uses many methods to revel this character to the reader. Three of the main methods he uses are, through the woman's dialogue, by the use of the minor characters, and through symbolism.…
In selective works from some of the 17th century 's most influential poets, a collective theme often appears: the poets allow the women they write about to assume the roles of sexually charged characters in a new fashion. Treating topics ranging from chlorosis to premature ejaculation to impotence, these poets not only address the issue of sex but also many of the concerns that may arise during sexual encounters. More importantly, each explores the divisions between the men and women 's behaviors provoked by these experiences. In "A Remedy for the Greensickness," by an anonymous poet, the reader encounters a woman who suffers the tortuous effects of intense sexual desire. Whereas this piece offers the notion that only men possess the prowess to remedy this sort of illness, it also explicitly reveals a distinctive incurability in the woman 's condition. Further compelling the idea that men lack this supreme ability, "The Women 's Complaint to Venus," found in Some Songs from Bassus, depicts women who prefer the pleasures of men but nonetheless find greater satisfaction from other, unconventional sources. Introducing more overt evidence of men 's sexual limitations, John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, and Sir George Etherege illustrate the effects of premature ejaculation from a male perspective and consider the disenchantment caused for the female in their poems, both entitled "The Imperfect Enjoyment." While the males receive some mocking from the poets, the females command the compassion of the writers and the audience. Perhaps the most intuitive representation of a sexually unfulfilled woman emerges with Aphra Behn 's "The Disappointment," in which a young virgin 's first sexual encounter ends without ever having begun. This particular poem differentiates itself from the rest, for no other poet communicates the female perspective of dissatisfaction first-handedly. Considering these poems within the context of each…

How many people do you know who are exactly like you—who look like you, think like you, act like you? I know plenty of people who have similar characteristics as me and it turns out that most of them would, happen to be women. Sure, there are people who share some of the same characteristics you have. About half of the world's population is the same gender you are. Roughly one third of the world's population is the same basic racial stock as you. Millions of people live in the same country you do, but billions more don't. Is there by chance the people who act like you, think like you, or look like you the opposite gender?…
