The Shawshank redemption – Vladimir Propp's narative theory relates to this movie. In every narrative there are always certain people that play certain roles and the theory is correct in it's assessment when compared to this film. Beginning with the hero – this character leads the whole narrative and is usually looking for or trying to achieve something. In this case it is male who is also the main character being Andy Dufresne, or Tim Robbins. He is up for trial for a double murder. It is unsure whether he is innocent or guilty but he was actually innocent. There is flashbacks of the lead-up to the murders. "If I didn’t Care” by the Ink Spots which plays on the radio (diegetic)

In the end though after being in prison for 19 years for something he never did Andy had enough by deciding to dig through the wall of his cell. It took much digging at a slow pace to disperse the excavated material in the prison yard so it doesn't accumulate in the cellbut after all was set and done just to plan he was finally free through his own hard work and finished off by covering the tunnel entry with a poster. Next is the helper in this theory - The helper often acts as a sidekick. In the Shaw Shank Redemption there is one helper and he plays a massive role without any exaggeration. Everything has been covered here now with theory’s showing in their own respective individualistic ways how we as people will interpret in a vastly numbers of ways in our minds of what were are consuming.     In “Shawshank Redemption” the year is 1947 and Andy Dufresne is ordered to serve two life sentences in Shawshank Prison for the murder of his wife and her lover. Inside, Andy is subjected to violent attacks from brutal guards and fellow inmates. Slowly, he begins to make friends ,one of the most most important friendship is the one he forms with 'Red', who has also been convicted of murder and is Shawshank's resident black-market dealer. During his time in prison, Andy's previous experience as a banker earns him favour with the guards and especially the warden ,as he begins to manage their financial affairs, soon moving on to laundering money for them. In return, Andy is permitted special privileges , which includes working in the warden's office and being able to establisha prison library for the inmates. Eventually Andy's innocence is proven.
