Short Essay on Spiritual Gifts
In this world, people give each other presents on many occasions. There are physical presents and also spiritual gifts. Understanding the significance of spiritual gifts is of great importance in the Christian world as the gifts are from the Lord. To better understand, Christian followers have to comprehend the definition and purpose of spiritual gifts, the difference between the gifts and the Fruit of the Spirit, the biblical definition and purpose of the gift of speaking in tongues, the baptism in the Holy Spirit, and the contemporary validity of speaking in tongues.
First, it is essential to understand the definition and purpose of spiritual gifts. The gifts include special abilities or talents in different field in life; they are given by God to contribute to the community and the body of Jesus Christ. The purpose of these gifts is to glorify God. It is said in 1 Cor. 12:7 that a spiritual gift is “a manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (ESV). In other words, when people make use of the gifts, the Holy Spirit will work miracle to create believers in other individuals.
Even though spiritual gifts and the Fruit of the Spirit are both divine, there is a slight difference. The Fruit of the Spirit is the Holy Spirit’s fruit found in the believers. According to Jesus, humans get to know each other by the fruits, not the gifts. (Mat 7:16-23). The gifts are what aid humans’ capabilities while the fruit is the result from humans’ abilities. Hence, it is safe to say that through the fruit of the spirit, one can make known his or her spiritual maturity.
Another crucial factor to consider is the biblical definition and purpose of the gift of speaking in tongues, the baptism in the Holy Spirit, and the contemporary validity of speaking in tongues. In Elwell’s Dictionary of Theology, he states that the gift of tongues are ”disjointed, highly

For Christians and the church the Holy Spirit lives inside the Christian and guides the actions of those who desire His presence. The Spirit empowers the believer to step outside his comfort zone to do extraordinary acts of faith for God. Being filled with the Spirit involves transforming their minds to the mind of Christ as we engage in spiritual activities. Walking in the Spirit leads to a sense of peace and joy. Violating their conscience through acts of disobedience leads to a loss of filling by the Holy Spirit, which takes away their joy and peace. Although God will not take the Holy Spirit away from a disciple of Jesus Christ, the continual practice of sin and a lack of spiritual activities will lead to a life that is no different than the life of a…

The gift of Tongues has been becoming more and more popular over the past 10 years. Christians appear to have differing views on the matter. Some think it is a sign of the HOLY SPIRIT, other think it is a manifestation of demonic forces. There are Bible verses to support both of these opinions, so the issues can become rather confusing. This paper is meant to show exactly everything that the Book of Acts mentions on the subject of tongues. This paper doesn’t refer to any other parts in the Bible regarding tongues. There are three different incidences in the Book of Acts that refers to speaking in tongues. First in Acts 2:4, 6-11 at the day of Pentecost, then in Acts 10:46 at the conversion of Cornelius, and finally in Acts 19:6 at the baptism of the 12 men in Ephesus. I am going to look solely at these events in order to study exactly what the Book of Acts says about tongues.…

For health care providers to deliver the best holistic care that patients deserve, a thorough spiritual assessment must be included during their care. With more research showing a relationship between supporting a patient’s spirituality with their health and ability to cope with illness, it is now a requirement of organizations to include a spiritual assessment to maintain accreditation with The Joint Commission. The minimum required of a spiritual assessment by The Joint Commission is to determine the patient’s religion and if they have any spiritual practices that are important to them (The Joint Commission, 2005). When I first began my research for this assignment, I believed that was all my facility included in our spiritual assessment done upon admission; just the minimum. There is a very small section in the admission database titled “Spirituality.” In this section there are two questions: “Do you have a religious preference” and “do you have any religious or cultural beliefs that may affect your care during your stay?” When I came across more material and all that should be included in a thorough spiritual assessment, I found that my facility’s admission database included a very comprehensive spiritual assessment placed throughout the admission database. Therefore, my facilities admission database served as a great reference in creating a spiritual assessment tool and serve as great way to ease into such a personal conversation. Many of my questions were created from the three empirical referents of spiritual well-being (personal faith, spiritual contentment and religious practice) and from intervening variables (severity of illness, social support and stressful life events) of the middle-range theory of spiritual well-being in illness…

When we say the spirit of faith, the meaning is a relationship of communion with God who wills to save all people by bring them into a lifegiving communion with his and with one another in the Lasallian tradition (the website of De La Salle University). According to the website of De La Salle University, the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows us to: (a) Discovering God’s active presence in his Word, in men and women, in the poor, in nature, in history, and in ourselves. Meaning to say, the presence of God is in everywhere. As educator, we need to find God by reading his words, serving the students and in different people, especially in the poor. Saint Lasalle is the one who used to discover the presence of God. Therefore, He loves to pray and serve the people around him because he believes that the almighty God present in everyone.
