Dragons, witches, princesses and knights. These are the imaginary friends in so many children's lives. For young adults, those fairy tale characters give way to darker characters and more realistic situations. However, what do they all have in common? They live in short stories Two stories that are interesting are "The Sniper" by Liam O'Flaherty and " A Sound of Thunder" Ray Bradbury. Both center around grow men have guns to kill something. The Sniper in "The Sniper" has part of the army trying to take out enemies. Eckels is trying to hunt a T.rex back in the past to win $10,000. In "A sound of thunder" Eckels was ready to kill a T.Rex "I've hunted tiger, wild bear, buffalo, elephant, but now this is it" Eckels must be a good hunter and must enjoy it a lot since he's killed a lot of them before. That must mean they are good with guns and they take their …show more content…

The book I chose for the summative essay assignment was “American Sniper” by Chris Kyle. This book is about the courageous and thrilling memoir of the most lethal sniper in U.S. military history. With over 100 documented kills during his four tours of duty, Chris Kyle has shed light on the dangerous brave life of a sniper. During his four tours of duty in the Iraq war he has come close to death and saved countless lives. He changed a lot from just being a country boy and became what he describes as a man. The war really changed his perspective on his civilian life. The significance of the Iraq war was to help free the Iraqi civilians of their dictator, Saddam Hussein, and the radical Islamic insurgents who terrorized the Iraqi’s after the fall of Saddam Hussein.…

Two men that decide they want to take people’s lives into their own hands, can change the way American citizens live their everyday lives. This exact situation happened over a twenty-three day period, when John Muhammad and John Malvo went on a shooting spree in Washington D.C. John Allen Muhammad, a forty-one year old veteran expert marksman of the Persian Gulf War, was the main culprit of the crime. He was accompanied by John Lee Malvo, a seventeen year old Jamaican citizen. These two men killed ten people and wounded three others.…

The main characters of both stories are similar because they both take risks. The author doesn’t directly explain Rogers life, So the reader must infer it through his actions. For example, roger tries to steal Mrs. Bates purse about ¨11 at night¨, Roger goes for the risk of stealing her purse. A boy who comes from a responsible family doesn´t go around stealing peoples purses. Similarly, the Sniper is smoking a cigarette in the middle of war "Placing a cigarette between his lips, he struck a match, inhaled the smoke hurriedly and put out the light" (Flaherty). The man is making a bad decision. He doesn’t care that he is at war he still does…

Consequently, after the Republican sharpshooter was shot, he was no longer able to operate his rifle. He needed a plan to take out the Free Stater rifleman, this is where the ruse comes into play. “Crawling quickly to his feet, he peered over the corner of the roof. His ruse had succeeded.... He took a steady aim… Then the smoke cleared, he peered across and uttered a cry of joy. His enemy had been hit” (O’Flaherty 2-3) He uses the strategy of faking his death and in succeeding, he kills his enemy. The difficult ploy triumphing also aids the concept that the Republican sniper is a skillful marksman. In spite of having an immobile arm as well as a low range revolver, he was able to execute the antagonist with precision and skill. His ability to form strategies under pressure and his accuracy in marksmanship were the largest contributors to the interpretation that the sniper is experienced in…

Every wondered how much a title or name can mean to someone? There is almost always a larger meaning behind the name of a company or the title of a book. Without truly studying and analyzing the title it may not seem that important. My book American Sniper has a very short title but when you truly look at the two words there is more to them than what may come to the mind at first. The word American, and sniper are both really important words that when put together have a very strong meaning especially to Chris Kyle.…

Main characters faced violent tragedies from both stories. Ironically, Paul and Lennie from both stories met death by the pulling of a trigger from someone who was not an enemy. “His hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger. The crash of the shot rolled up the hills and rolled down again.” (Steinbeck 106) After all that George and Lennie have been through, George had the nerve to put a bullet straight through Lennie’s head. “He had fallen forward and lay on the earth as though sleeping. Turning him over one saw that he could not have suffered long; his face and expression of calm, as though almost glad the end had come.” (Remarque 296) Even though Paul was killed by a comrade, he was glad that it was all over with. He died an honorable death, knowing he served for his country and tried to support for the other.…

I’ve always looked for a meaning or purpose that could connect with my life, but how can a 17 year old boy decipher and discover such a thing on his own? A possibility can be found through ways of expressing passion to the public. Such as movies, songs, poems, or even a piece of art. And even though I have seen or found some type of message in all these, I’ve found a special one with a film by the name of The American Sniper. This is a film about a U.S Navy Seal Officer by the name of Chris Kyle that was during the fight on terrorism. The things I can take from this film that lets it connect so well with my life is a certain scene about a saying of a sheep dog, and the similarities I can see with the protagonist and my father. Ideas and…
