The Sport of Soccer In this essay I’m going to teach you about the main purpose, positions, and types of kicks in the Sport of Soccer. The main purpose of the sport of soccer is to kick the soccer ball into the opposing team’s goal. The main positions that do this job are the midfielders, and forwards, while the defenders and goalkeeper try to keep the other team from scoring. There are many different types of kicks in a soccer game, but the main ones are: goal kicks, penalty kicks, free kicks and corner kicks. The main purpose of the Sport of Soccer is to kick the soccer ball into the opposing team’s goal. But if both teams do not score, or score the same amount of goals in the hour and a half of the game, the game goes into overtime. Overtime consists of two periods of fifteen minutes and if the game is still in a tie after those periods, the game then goes into penalty kicks.
But that is not all to the game of soccer; the athlete must follow the rules! The player must wear regulation soccer cleats and the jersey of his team, he must stay in the field of play, and play clean; which mean not slide tackling from behind or start fights. If he does not follow these rules the referee will give him a yellow card or a red card. A red card kicks the player out of the game and a yellow card is just a foul and gives the opposing team a free kick from where the foul was made. There are eleven different positions in the Sport of Soccer. There is an offense and a defense. The offense usually consists of three forwards, two outside midfielders, and a attacking or center midfielder. The defense consists of a stopper or defensive midfielder, a right and left defender, a sweeper or center defender, and the goalkeeper. The forwards stay at the top of the field and tries to score goals, the midfielder also try to score goals but they have to come back to defense when needed.
