While touring the Eiteljorg Museum I noticed several themes in which the art by non-native people related to that of the natives. One such theme that I would like to focus on, is the view of marriage and degradation of native women as viewed by both natives and non-natives. Three pieces in particular that I want to focus on are Bartering for a Bride (The Trapper’s Bride) 1845 by Alfred Jacob Miller, Dress 1890 by an unnamed Crow artist, and Retracing the Trace 2011-2015 by Luzene Hill.…

Even though no one in the band is religious they find religious symbol, figures, and teachings to be interesting. The band consists of 5 band members; Jake Pitts, Guitarist, Jinxx, Guitarist, Christian Coma…

Historically, the respective roles of a man and a woman in marriage are different across religious, cultures, and political borders. Even today, different sectors of society have distinctly different guidelines and expectations for the husband-wife relationship. Often what sets apart some societies from others when it comes to marriage is the role that women are allowed to have in the relationship. For centuries, and even in parts of the world today, marriage was treated as a sacred bond, but one in which the woman must honor and serve the man. This was clear in early Eurasia, where society viewed marriage as a way to enforce women's subordination.…

Marriage has always been a social staple that’s been ever-present in America before it was even colonized by Europeans. It has changed over time as cities expand and communities grow. Marriage during the Renaissance was definitely different from marriage during the Dark Romantic Period due to the changes not only in groups, but the changes in individuals thinking. During the Dark Romantic Period, an abundance of previous ideas were challenged, one of them is marriage due to advances in literature that questioned the social norms established by the early Puritan culture. One of the instances marriage was challenged during the Dark Romantic Period was in the novel, The Birth-Mark by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne…

A main theme that I identified in the play is stressing the importance of obedience in a marriage. It was greatly over dramatized, but the point remains. The theme of possessing obedience is exemplified in several places throughout the movie and script. The best examples are towards the end of the story. One example in particular is the scene in which Petruchio and Kate are returning to Padua. Petruchio points out how brightly the moon is shining, in the middle of daytime. Kate then corrects him, but Petruchio then tells her, “It shall be moon, or star, or what I list.” (Shakespeare). Kate listens and then agrees that the sun is indeed the moon. The reason I have always loved watching plays, and other performance art, is that I love how they…
