His story begins in 1570 when he was born to Edward and Edith Fawkes in the town of York. The Fawkes’ family was a long supporter of the Church of England which all came to an end when Edward Fawkes died leaving behind a wife and four children. His oldest being Guy. As normal for the time, his mother remarried, but this time to a devout Catholic. His new father took charge of the family’s religious standing and the Fawkes’ became a strong Catholic family. Guy was soon sent to a prestigious Catholic school called St. Peter’s in York where he met many of his lifelong friends.

He had been waiting since late the night before, armed only with a slow match and a watch to know the time. Fawkes was found leaving the cellars a little while after midnight. Inside the barrels were found and Guy Fawkes was arrested. He was taken and interrogated where he would not answer any questions and gave the alias of John Johnson. Later when asked why he was in the possession of that multitude of gunpowder he told them of his plan to blow them up. He was tortured to give up the names of those who were also in the group.
