The Three Branches
Three Branches Research Paper There are three different branches in the American government. The three branches are the legislative branch, executive branch, and judicial branch. The branches do a lot of things and are made up of a lot of individual groups. Each branch has its own role they have to accomplish to carry out the functions of the government. The executive, judicial, and legislative branches are not independent. When the constitution was written, it included checks and balances. This was put into place to make sure that no branch becomes too powerful. The job of the legislative branch is to make the laws. It has checks over the other two branches. There are three steps that party whips go through. The first step that party whips take when it comes to keeping up with the votes for and against a new law is they just get a simple head count. They call in every member of the party and then he or she asks them how they plan on voting. The second step that the party whips take is done in whip teams. There can be up to nine people on these whip teams and these nine go and talk to the members of the party and who are on the fence about a certain issue. These people hear the concerns and try to find solutions for the concerns. Lastly, the final whip occurs the day before a piece of legislation is voted on. The members join different committees based on what is important to the people they represent from their states. There are many committees that do a lot of different things. The first example of a committee is a standing committee. This committee deals with permanent legislative concern. There are sub committees within the standing committees that deal with specific parts of an issue. Another example of a committee is a conference committee. This committee has members from both the House of Representatives and the Senate. This committee works out the issues between a Senate and House bill, and come up with a common bill for both to vote on. A select committee is a specific committee given a specific task or area to focus on. This committee is normally under time restrictions. The last example of a committee is a joint committee.
