Myths and legends of shape-shifters have been around for hundreds of years but shape-shifters themselves have been around for much longer. In this report I will be analysing myths and legends about shape-shifters and using this information to explain anomalies today. I will be focusing on the myths of were- wolves.
Shape-Shifters (were-wolves) age more slowly than humans but are still mortal. Most live up to 120 years old. There is a very rare illness called congenital growth-hormone condition which causes people to look younger than they actually are. Doctors claim this is down to a lack of hormones but could this be explained by shape-shifters? Could it be possible that people who suffer from this disease are descendents and are actually were-wolves? Nowadays stories and sightings of were-wolves are very low and rare, could this explain why the disease its self is so rare and only affects certain people?
When the moon is full the Ahroun (type of wolves) displays certain traits like: Powerful, Brutish, ill Tempered, Savage and zealous. Researchers are trying to find out if the moon affects humans and the only solid link they have found is that before modern lighting the full moon would have kept people awake at night leading to sleep deprivation that could also lead to other mental issues. Sleep deprivation can also leave people ill tempered. Could ill temperedness be explained by wolves? Now some people would be thinking ‘no people are ill tempered all the time’ but think about this; during the time when this accusation was made stories were told whilst sitting around campfires and myths of wolves were ‘all the range’. People are ill tempered all the time but people were often affected by this
