Uniforms. Although many students and even some teachers may cringe upon hearing the word, at the end of the day it’s a given fact that uniforms are beneficial to both private and public schools. Uniforms should be worn in schools because not only does it cut down on bullying, but it also enforces order and is a much cheaper and easier choice of clothing. Although children believe that schools are trying to control their freedom of speech by enforcing uniforms, school is not a fashion show. It is there to educate students and help them get into a college and a worthwhile career, not to show off a new pair of sneakers or flaunt a new dress.
To begin with, if all students were required to wear uniforms, it would greatly reduce the hostility and bullying between them. Whether people are aware of it or not, most bullying that occurs in schools is due to differences in style of clothing. Many children and teenagers nowadays have the mentality that if an article of clothing isn’t an expensive brand name that they shouldn’t wear it. Even though this sounds completely ludicrous, it is true. Fortunately, by enforcing uniforms in schools the hostility between peers will subside because everyone would be wearing the same clothes! Implementing order is key in any educational system, which brings us to our next point. Uniforms are a strong symbol for equality, and with the show of equality there will also be a show of order. Once students put on their uniforms they will realize that school is not the same environment as home and that the sole purpose for going to school is to learn and have fun, not to cause disruption and havoc.
