The Unknown Assassin
As the motorcade passed the Texas School Book Depository, the gunshot that would change history was heard throughout the crowd. Fragments of Kennedy’s skull are being gathered by Jackie, and the crowd is in awe. The president is dead. Lee Harvey Oswald, an employee at the depository, is arrested an hour after the killing. He can never defend his case because two days later Oswald is killed by Jack Ruby. Almost immediately conspiracy theories arise, among those are that Oswald wasn't the lone gunman. That leaves us with one question; who else did it? Nearly 54 years later, John F Kennedy’s assassination is left still unsolved, surrounded by many conspiracy …show more content…
The investigation took a year and was released to the public on September 27, 1964. The 888 page document basically denied all theories of the assassination, stating, “There is no question in the mind of any member of the Commission that all the shots which caused the President's and Governor Connally's wounds were fired from the sixth floor window of the Texas School Book Depository.” (Johnson, Lyndon B. "Table of Contents." National Archives and Records Administration. N.p., n.d. Web. 6 Apr. 2017.) The Texas School Book Depository is the said location where apparently the shots rang out. The members of the commission listened to many testimonies and also visited the location of the shooting multiple times throughout the investigation. The Commission has a chapter dedicated to the findings of the assassination, and inside the contents of the chapter they state that Oswald did fire the three shots on JFK. They also released where the shots are said to have come from. Oswald was killed two days after JFK’s death by Jack Ruby, so he could never defend his position. Jack Ruby was mentioned in the commission as well, stating that he acted alone in killing Oswald. Oswald was held in custody for two days and denied the killing, continuously calling himself a patsy. Jack Ruby had plenty connections with police officers, therefore his venues weren't familiar with the force, Theories revolve around Ruby aswell, considering he had plenty of connections with crime. The mob could have hired him to kill Oswald in order to cover up something larger. Jack Ruby pleaded innocence and said he suffered from, “psychomotor epilepsy,” causing him to assassinate Oswald unconsciously that night. However, he was charged guilty with “murder with malice” and sentenced to death. Later in time, oswald saw some light in his trial, “On October 1966, the Texas Court of Appeals reversed the decision on the grounds of improper admission of testimony and the fact that Ruby could not have received a fair trial in Dallas at the time.” The chance for Ruby’s innocence was tried again, but for a short while. Jack Ruby dies on January 3, 1967 of cancer in Dallas right before his new trial. The warren report finally concluded that both Oswald and Ruby were not part of anything larger than Oswald killing Kennedy, and Ruby killing Oswald. And of course The Warren Report is always correct.
