By studying their habitats they are able to understand their fossil trace, and have been able to reconstruct through experiments, their nesting places. These experiments are able to examine paleobiologic, paleopedologic analyses, and many more aspects of the fossils. This unlocks the gate for scientists to see how crayfish, and other insects, were affected in the water ecosystem during the Jurassic Terrestrial time period, as well as help scientist understand the water ecosystem during that time.
