as she wanted.
This moral that women desire sovereignty over a men in a relationship could still be valid today because in today’s world a woman expects a man to perform a certain way. If a man does not pass her expectations then she would just say no to the relation. This was the same way the wife of bath felt because during the prologue wife of bath states, “‘We cannot love a husband who takes charge Of where we go. We like to be at large’”(285). Wife of bath believes that with sovereignty both the man and the woman could live happily. In addition, in the prologue she supports her views on marriage by using the bible,” No word of what the number to be, Then why not marry two or even eight?”(277), She must believe in the bible and uses the sacred scripture to support ethical views. People today might not use the bible to justify the marriage history because in today’s world having an ex husband is acceptable by the society, while during her time it was not acceptable.
Another moral standard that is still valid in today’s world comes from the pardoner’s tale. In this tale the main moral of this tale is that greed is the root to all evil. Additional moral that is also present in the tale is gluttony, drunkenness, gambling and swearing are moral vices that should be avoided. The pardoner preaches all of his morals to others but he is hypocritical when it come to him following his morals. So his Moral views and Ethical views collide because he thinks one way and does the opposite.
The pardoner preaches his morals: that greed is the root of all evil; throughout the prologue though, he demonstrated that his ethical views are the exact opposite of his morals.
An example of his shrewdness is that he would sell people that fake artifacts such as bones from the old ages, Jesus’s time period. He stated in his prologue,”My exclusive purpose is to win and not at all to castigate their sin...And thus I preach against the very vice I make my living out of- avarice”(261). His reason to why he sells pardons and fake relics is because he is very greedy. The moral that greed is the root of all evil still applies today because people who have greed they often are willing to anything to feed their greed, even if that requires them to rip people off. An example of a man who was greedy and tricked people into buying stocks was Jordan Belfort. He scammed people into giving him millions of dollars. Just like the pardoner this man’s root of evil was greed, he did these acts due to the fact that he loved money. The pardoner also preaches other vices people should avoid such as drinking and gambling, but he is again, hypocritical because he drinks at bars. Even though the pardoner’s ethics contradict his morals, his morals are still applicable in the world
today.
When it comes to the clerk, he has a moral that is valued in today’s world. This moral is present in the clerk's tale, when a husband has total control in their relationship. In the Clerk’s tale Walter had absolute power over his wife; in order, to have absolute power the wife had to had to be absolutely obedient which she was. .
