The Shadow
I think the shadow is the evil inside of Ged, it represents dark, evil, and power. Duny was a young boy tending goats in the mountain village of Gont. Duny's mother died, his elder bothers had all left home, and his father was a reserved blacksmith. Duny grew up with little care and affection, becoming self-centered and willful. His aunt, the village witch discovered Duny's powers. She trained him, promising him glory, wealth, and power. He was named Sparrowhawk, which he is generally known by. Duny overspends his powers and falls into a trance. This soon reaches Ogion, the mage of Re Albi. Later Ogion takes away his birth name giving Duny the name of Ged. Ged soon becomes frustrated with Ogion, who wants to teach him patience and respect. He decided to show off doing a spell that was dark magic, a shadow creature appeared.
When Ged goes to a school for wizards his skill inspires admiration, envy, and rumors. However, Ged unwisely studies magic beyond his level and ignores warnings about respecting the balance. Arrogantly believing that a powerful wizard does not need to fear anything. Ged does a spell trying to prove his power by opening the realm of the dead, and a shapeless shadow creature passes through, attacking Ged and clawing his face. The shadow creature is an ancient and nameless evil that wishes to possess Geds body. Ged finally graduated from the school when he was 18.
Ged befriends a fisherman named Pechvarry and his son, The boy becomes sick with a fever and Ged tried saving him by pursing his spirit into the land of the dead, Ged sees the shadow creature waiting for him at the border of the two realms, and knows it will soon find him. Staying too long in the form of a falcon Ged returns to Ogion, and only few people know can change him back. After hearing of Ged's experiences, Ogion tells him “ All things have a name,” and he advises that Geds only hope of understanding the shadow is to confront it.
