I may have met a few bumps along the way but that is nothing now compared to what I have learned in the program for the past three weeks. I believe SEAOIL is generously nourishing my need for self-actualization by giving me opportunities to know myself better and my hidden potentials. The Essential Drucker is an eye-opener. I am particularly absorbed in the Individual element of the book wherein it aims to connect a person’s individualization to its effectivity in the workforce. I have learned to be a knowledge worker. That is, somebody who produces knowledge, ideas, and information and getting the right things done effectively. But how do I become one? Drucker stresses the importance of knowing one’s strengths and values. In this process, one is expected to understand himself better, position himself in accordance with his strength, and establish a set of values, all fundamental to self-improvement. As pointed out by Drucker, “For knowing where one belongs makes ordinary people – hardworking, competent, but mediocre otherwise – into outstanding performers”. But I see myself as a seedling planted in the grounds of SEAOIL’s core values, watered by various opportunities, and taken cared of by brilliant mentors. My imminent growth in this company is a fruit that I will share towards fueling a better future, both for the organization and for myself. The Essential Drucker will now serve as a tangible guideline towards aligning every endeavour accordingly. I believe the application of Drucker’s management principles will manifest itself once you have established the right foundations for yourself, and find where you truly want to belong. My road to self-discovery may have just started, but I know for sure I have the potentials to stay on track. It may take a while to learn everything outside my field of study, but I believe in myself and in what I am capable of. I am prepared for the challenges and the difficulties.
