The Yellow Wall paper

The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, is based on the narrator. It presents the theme of Freedom, Trap and Escape. The narrator's husband John rents a house so she could get better. The narrator suffers from a nervous depression. Since his husband is a doctor he says fresh air and rest would cure her. Her husband doesn't want her to read or write. He doesn't let her do anything. She keeps a secret diary so she could write and hides it from him. One of the rooms has a yellow wallpaper and her husband thinks they should keep that room for them since it has a lot of windows. She spends a lot of time looking at the wallpaper and she begins to see stuff. In the night she decides to tear the wallpaper out to save the woman. Than she realized it was her inside the wallpaper. Her husband faint when he saw her.

The theme of Freedom comes into play when the narrator rips the wallpaper and realized it was her that she was traps around her husband. "I have a schedule prescription for each hour in the day; he takes care of me, and so I feel basely ungrateful not to value it more." This means her husband has a schedule of everything she would be doing each hour so she feels ungrateful not to value it more. The narrator's husband doesn't let her write or read. She carry a little book and write when her husband not around the house. Her husband doesn't let her do anything she cried cause nobody was listening to her.

The theme escape is presented because the narrator tries to boss her around do the stuff he wants." John thought it might do me good to see a little company, so we had mother and Nellie and the children down for a week. Of course I Didn't do a thing. Jennie sees to everything now." John thought it company would help her but she didn't do anything. She tries to tell John to get her out of the room and he doesn't want to.

The theme of Trap is explored when John doesn't let his wife write or read. She also feels trap when he makes a schedule
